Delivery & Refunds

Effective: [date on launch] · Part of our Terms of Service.

Delivered or refunded. Every note is sent through a monitored delivery service. We confirm the receiving mail server accepted it — and if it bounces or can't be delivered, you get every cent back automatically. No forms, no chasing us.

If a note can't be delivered, the refund is automatic

If the recipient's mail server rejects the note outright — the address doesn't exist, the mailbox is gone, a hard bounce — our delivery provider tells us, and we refund the full amount to your original payment method. You don't need to ask, and there's nothing to fill out. It's tracked per note, by the system, not by someone remembering.

Blocked is not a refund — because you were never charged

People mix these up, so here's the distinction:

  • At checkout, your payment is authorised — a hold, not a charge.
  • If screening blocks your message, the hold is simply released. The money never left your account, so there's nothing to refund — it just becomes available again when your bank clears the hold.
  • We only actually capture (charge) the payment when a note passes screening and is sent.

Held for human review

If your custom message lands in the grey zone, it waits for a person on our team to read it. While it's under review, your payment stays as an authorisation only.

  • Approved and sent → the payment is captured, like any other note. The delivery guarantee applies from there.
  • Not approved → the authorisation is released. You're never charged.

One honest limit: the folder is not ours to promise

We do everything technically possible to land in the inbox — a properly authenticated sending domain, a dedicated delivery service, one-to-one sends, never bulk blasts. But no sender on earth can promise a specific folder in someone else's mailbox: Gmail, Outlook, and corporate filters make that call. That's exactly why the guarantee is built on confirmed delivery instead of a promise nobody can keep. If their server accepted the note, it was delivered; if it didn't, you're refunded.

How refunds show up

  • Refunds go back to the original payment method — we can't send them anywhere else.
  • We process them right away on our side. After that, timing is your bank's: refunds typically take 5–10 business days to appear on a statement.
  • Released authorisations (blocked or rejected notes) aren't refunds — your bank clears the hold on its own schedule, usually within a few days.
  • Prices are in CAD, so refunds are the full CAD amount you paid.

If something seems wrong

Charged for a note that never arrived? Refund still not there after 10 business days? Email us at youmayhavebeenrude@proton.me with the email address you checked out with, and a human will look into it. And if a charge ever still doesn't make sense, you're always free to dispute it with your bank — we'd just rather fix it for you first.
